The people who read and report the news at NPR were hired for those jobs because they have the nicest voices of anyone in the United States. Plus, they are smart, well-educated, and very well spoken. Simply having NPR on in the background can’t hurt, but it won’t help you as much. Note that this needs to be active listening and reading while trying to understand as much as you can. He spent an hour every day listening to NPR and reading the transcripts and, every day, his vocabulary got bigger. In addition to performing in the 3 tenor's concert in Japan, Maki Mori recently sang as soloist. She has sung such roles in Tokyo as Nannetta in Falstaff, Musetta in La Bohème, Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Olympia, Gilda, Tytania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Adele in Die Fledermaus. She has performed also at the Los Angeles Opera as Sophie in Werther with Robert Alagna, Frederica von Stade and Kent Nagano. Maki Mori has performed at the Washington Opera as Blonde in Die Entfürung aus dem Serail, as Gilda in Rigoletto, as Blumen Mädchen with Plácido Domingo in Parsifal, as Olympia in Les Contes d' Hoffmann, and as Adele in Die Fledermaus with June Anderson and Wolfgang Brendel, winning critical acclaim from The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal and receiving S&R Foundation's Washington Award. Winner of numerous competitions including Plácido Domingo's Operalia Competition (Hamburg) and International Singing Competition Orfeo 2000 (Hannover), she is also the recipient of many special prizes for Lied and Bach-interpretation. ![]() The Japanese soprano, Maki Mori, received degrees in singing from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, the Conservatorio di musica Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and the master's course of the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. ![]()
